Ministerial Breakfast]

The
Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Mr Pascal Lamy
hosted a ministerial level working breakfast to discuss WTO LDC
related activities. Ministers from LDC and donor countries and
representatives of EIF core agencies were invited to the breakfast.
The
objective of this event, which brought together LDCs, EIF donors and
EIF core Agencies was to take stock of progress achieved in
operationalizing the Enhanced Integrated Framework for LDCs with
particular focus on the experience of beneficiary countries in
mainstreaming EIF projects into their national and regional
development strategies. This event also provided an opportunity to
exchange views on the next steps in the EIF programme, particularly
the need to initiate resource mobilization for implementation of the
EIF programme. In addition, the discussions also considered the
assistance being offered to LDC countries in the accession stage and
how the EIF framework can best support their accession processes.
Against the
background of the current global economic crisis and its impact on
the least developed countries and within the context of the 7th
WTO Ministerial Conference, this event provided an opportunity to
highlight the successful cooperation between LDCs, donors and EIF
core Agencies. Furthermore, the event initiated discussions on a
future roadmap for the EIF within the context of the Doha
Development Agenda.
