In July 2004, the DTIS team leader visited Dar Es Salaam to discuss with the authorities a number of modalities for the Tanzania Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS). The mission met with staff in the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT), representatives from the private sector and the donor community, and researchers and consultants involved in trade-related work.

The main findings of this mission were summarized in an Aide-mémoire.

A concept paper was prepared prior to the main mission, which took place in November 2004.

The National Validation Workshop took place in November 2005. The results of this workshop were incorporated in the final version of the DTIS.

A consultant was hired to assist the government during the implementation process. Discussions are under way on the identification of appropriate implementation structures and mechanisms, including setting up a multi-donor basket fund to support DTIS implementation.

A number of trade issues were included in the June 2005 PRSP.
