Zambia
The preliminary mission took place in May 2004. Based on the concept
note prepared after the preliminary mission, the main mission was
organized in June 2004. Aide-mémoires were prepared for both missions.
The draft DTIS was sent to the government in March 2005.
The government requested the DTIS team to conduct three priority
studies on a short notice. These included an assessment of the economic
impact of implementing the proposed COMESA Common External Tariff(s),
a study on the export of scrap metal from Zambia and a review of
outstanding management issues relating to the implementation of
the Export Processing Zone Act.
Upon completion of the DTIS, the national workshop took place in
July 2005.
The DTIS findings were fully integrated into the Private Sector
Development Program. Trade policies and private sector development
are being incorporated into the New National Development Plan,
which will subsume the PRSP. The government formally approved the
final version of the DTIS in June 2006.
One Window II project has been launched: capacity
building for IF implementation.
The DTIS findings have been fully incorporated into Private
Sector Development Program through which DTIS priorities are being
supported by development partners.
